Visual Prosody Supports Reading Aloud Expressively

چکیده
Type is not expressive enough. Even the youngest speakers are able to express a full range of emotions with their voice, while young readers read aloud monotonically as if convey robotic boredom. We augmented type expression similarly our voices. Specifically, we wanted in text words that spoken louder, drawn out and longer, at higher pitch. then asked children sentences these new kinds see would greater expression. found ignore augmentation they weren't explicitly told about it. But when were augmentation, vocal inflection. This innovation holds great promise for helping both adults fluency.

Reading aloud: eye movements and prosody
This study aims to connect data from ocular movements and reading aloud speech to syntactic and discursive properties of texts, in order to understand integrative cognitive processes during reading for understanding and to identify prosodic and eye movements’ indicators of reading fluency. Assuming that in reading aloud there is a close interaction between syntax structure and speech prosody, w...
متن کاملConnectionist Modelling of Reading Aloud
A new class of neural network models of reading aloud are presented. Unlike previous models, they are not restricted to monosyllabic words, require no complicated input-output representations such as Wickelfeatures and require no pre-processing to align the letters and phonemes in the training data. The best cases are able to achieve 100% performance on the Seidenberg & McClelland training corp...
متن کاملWhat visual feedback should a reading tutor give children on their oral reading prosody?
An automated reading tutor that models and evaluates children's oral reading prosody should also be able to respond dynamically with feedback they like, understand, and benefit from. We describe visual feedback that Project LISTEN's Reading Tutor generates in realtime by mapping prosodic features of children's oral reading to dynamic graphical features of displayed text. We present results from...
متن کاملThe eye-voice span during reading aloud
Although eye movements during reading are modulated by cognitive processing demands, they also reflect visual sampling of the input, and possibly preparation of output for speech or the inner voice. By simultaneously recording eye movements and the voice during reading aloud, we obtained an output measure that constrains the length of time spent on cognitive processing. Here we investigate the ...
متن کاملEditorial: Bridging Reading Aloud and Speech Production
The study of how people can speak or read started from the beginning of the modern era of psycholinguistics and neurolinguistics (e.g., Lichteim, 1885; Huey, 1898) and continues to this day. However, the two lines of research—speech production and reading aloud—have followed two separate and parallel paths: While they both concern language production, they seldom meet. Both have produced detail...
